NSW-ACT Practice-based Research Alliance (NAPRA)

NAPRA represents a pioneering alliance of practice-based research networks (PBRNs), based at universities and other organisations, in New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). At NAPRA, we are committed to facilitating collaboration and coordination among NAPRA member organisations to drive advancements in healthcare delivery and primary care research to improve health outcomes for Australians.

What Do We Do

NAPRA serves as a catalyst for primary care research excellence, leveraging the collective expertise and resources of our diverse network to address pressing healthcare challenges. Our alliance promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, facilitates research capacity-building among primary healthcare practitioners, reduces duplication, and fosters the translation of research findings into practice. We are committed to meaningful practice-based research by people working in primary care, to benefit the health of the communities in which they work.

NAPRA is a vital liaison point for the government and organisations with a vested interest in primary care research, offering a platform for collaboration in research projects and translation of research findings into practice. Quality primary care can improve effectiveness of medical services for patients, better coordinate patient care, and reduce both acute and non-acute requirements for hospital-based care. By promoting synergy and resource-sharing, we enhance efficiency and innovation in healthcare, thereby strengthening the evidence base in Australian primary care and drive meaningful improvements in healthcare delivery.

The Alliance will facilitate dissemination of information about research to enhance research participation by primary healthcare practitioners, consumers and other primary healthcare stakeholders. Our research may involve utilisation of large datasets, qualitative research or mixed methods research. Measurable outputs include increased research output, streamlined healthcare practices, and improved patient satisfaction, demonstrating tangible returns on investment in our collaborative efforts.
