NAPRA officially launched on 23 May 2025

We were honoured to have Professor Michael Kidd – Professor of Global Primary Care and Future Health Systems at the University of Oxford, Director of the International Centre for Future Health Systems at the University of New South Wales, and recently appointed as Australia’s Chief Medical Officer from 1st June 2025 – to open the event, with additional insights from invited speakers representing the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the NSW Health LUMOS Program and the Western Sydney Primary Health Network (WentWest).

Professor Michael Kidd, AO FAMHS, has joint academic appointment as the inaugural Director of the International Centre for Future Health Systems at the University of New South Wales, and as
Professor of Global Primary Care and Future Health Systems at the Nutfield Department of Primary Care Health Services at the University of Oxford.
He has recently been appointed as the next Chief Medical Officer of Australia.

Associate ProfessorPhyllis Lau
Associate Professor Phyllis Lau is Associate Professor and Research Lead in General Practice at Western Sydney University School of Medicine. She was the Immediate Past President of the Australasian Association for Academic Primary Care (AAAPC). Phyllis established the Western Sydney University Primary Care Research Network (WestReN) in 2023. She is the inaugural Chair of the NAPRA Committee.

Professor Dimity Pond was Professor of General Practice at the University of Newcastle.

She is currently a clinical professor at the Wicking Dementia Research and Teaching Centre, and chairs the National Research committee REC-R for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

System Information and Analytics Branch at the NSW Ministry of Health. Until recently, she was the Senior Manager of the Lumos Program.

Dr Zayn Ghonem is Senior Manager, Impact Strategy and Evidence at the Western Sydney Primary Health Network (WentWest). He is an Honorary Fellow at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Macquarie University, and at the Laboratory of Economics and Management Nantes-Atlantique, University of Nantes, France.

Dr Rod Martin is President of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). He is Senior Lecturer in Rural Medicine and Critical Care at the University of New England School of Rural Medicine. He is co-founder of Observa Care, a remote patient monitoring service company focused on addressing rural and remote health needs.

Simon Bishop is the NSW Representative National Primary and Acute Care Data Linkage Project at NSW Health. He is also the A/Senior Manager of the Lumos program.
